Memorial Service

The International Focusing Institute held a public celebration of Gene's life in New York City on Saturday, August 12 at 10am.

The entire event was livestreamed by the Institute (see left). Informal remembrances during the reception were livestreamed to Facebook.  Look on our Facebook page for those.  

We will be happy to post photos and videos of your gatherings in memory of Gene. There are already video remembrances of Gene available in Spanish on this page.  Send yours to our webmaster at webmaster@focusing.org to have them uploaded.

The Memorial included these elements:

The formal memorial service lasted two hours.  It included a video of Gene speaking (compiled by Nada Lou) and featured eulogies by Kye Nelson, Ann Weiser Cornell, Rob Parker and Gerry Gendlin.  Board member Kevin Krycka announced the formation of the Eugene T. Gendlin Center for Research in Experiential Philosophy and Psychology.

Open Sharing lasted about 45 minutes.

Symposium on Carrying Forward Gene's Legacy in Philosophy  This section lasted one hour and fifteen minutes.  It was hosted by Rob Parker.  William Potocnik and Bob Scharff shared their thoughts and reflections as well.

Symposium on Carrying Forward Gene's Legacy in Psychology  This section was moderated by Susan Rudnick. A video of Gene working with a client was shown. Lynn Preston, Bala Jaison and Ruth Rosenblum shared their wisdom about the significance of Gene's work in psychotherapy.
